For many years a U.S. citizen had it easy by traveling most of Europe without a visa. Well, folks, all will change for the year 2021 and beyond, as U.S. citizens will be required to apply for an ETIAS (European Travel Information and Authorization System) visa waiver for Schengen countries.

Travel Visa For Schengen Countries
No more just booking your flight and hotel to Schengen countries within Europe. Nope... You need that small extra step before you start your adventure. If you're a U.S. citizen traveling to Europe beginning in 2021, you will need to apply for a (European Travel Information and Authorization System) visa waiver.
The application requirements are a valid passport, a credit or debit card, and an email account. The ETIAS visa waiver is valid for three years and allows as many trips as necessary within the period. The application will be completely online and take approximately 10 minutes to complete after paying the small fee, entering personal information, passport details, and answer basic security questions.
The EU developed the new visa waiver system due to several terrorist attacks on European soil, so, to decrease health and security risks in the European zone, the ETIAS was created. I've posted links below for your research and information.
